Gold Pokémon card FAQ
Click any question to expand.
What is a gold Pokémon card?
Gold is a catch-all term for the top-tier metallic rarities in modern Pokémon TCG sets. Rainbow Rares show a full-art card with a rainbow gradient foil. Hyper Rares and Secret Rares use a gold or metallic-coloured background over the entire card. Shining and Shiny Rares use a chromatic holofoil pattern on the Pokémon illustration itself.
Are gold cards more valuable than Ultra Rares?
Usually yes. Secret Rares are printed at lower rates than Ultra Rares (roughly 1 in 36 booster packs vs 1 in 18 for Ultra), and Hyper Rares are rarer still. Collector premiums on clean copies can run 3-10× the Ultra Rare version of the same card.
Do gold cards grade well?
Gold and Rainbow cards are notoriously hard to get clean PSA 10s on because the foil layer shows even tiny scratches under grading company lights. Pull-fresh, protect immediately, and never stack them unsleeved.
How can I find every gold card in a specific set?
Open the set page. Card lists are filterable by rarity using the rarity chips on each set's detail view, and each card links to its rarity archive at /rarity.
