What is a Pokémon TCG tier list?

A tier list is a ranked grouping where you slot cards into letter grades. S is for elite, must-have picks. Then A, B, C, D, F for skip. The format started in fighting-game and anime communities and has become the internet's default way to argue about anything rankable. For the Pokémon TCG, that means comparing cards by value, art, playability, nostalgia, or whatever criteria you care about.

Catchinary's tier list builder ships with the entire indexed Pokémon TCG database. Every set, every card, every printing. Search by name, drag from the picker, drop into a tier. We auto-save every change so you never lose work, and the URL is permanent so the link you share today still works in five years.

Why people make them

  • Settle debates. "Best Charizard ever" is a never-ending fight. A sharable tier list lets you actually pin it down.
  • Plan grading queues. Slot your raw cards into tiers to decide which ones are worth sending to PSA / CGC first.
  • Show off priorities. Trading partners can see what you'd never give up vs what's on the block.
  • Crowdsource feedback. Drop the link in r/PokemonTCG, Discord, or your group chat. Permanent URL means the conversation isn't capped by a screenshot.
  • Document your collection. Build set-by-set or era-by-era lists as a visual inventory.

Frequently asked

Tier list FAQ

What is a Pokémon TCG tier list?

A tier list is a ranked grouping where cards are slotted into letter grades. S is for elite, must-have picks. Then A, B, C, D, and F for skip. Collectors use them to compare cards by value, art, playability, nostalgia, or any criteria they care about. The order S > A > B > C > D > F is borrowed from Japanese anime and arcade culture and has become the default ranking format online.

Do I need to sign up to view tier lists?

No. Every public tier list is viewable by anyone with the URL. No login required. You only need to sign in (free, magic-link or Google) if you want to build, save and share your own.

Are my tier lists public by default?

No, every new list starts private. You can flip the Public toggle in the editor whenever you want to share it. Private lists are only visible to you when signed in.

How many cards can I add to one list?

Up to 200 cards per list. There's no per-tier cap. Stack as many as you want into S, A, B, etc.

Which Pokémon cards are available?

Every card we've indexed from the Pokémon TCG database. That's over 18,000 cards spanning Base Set 1999 through the latest Scarlet & Violet releases. Search by name in the picker, or browse the popular cards we pre-load when you start a fresh list.

Can I download my tier list as an image?

Yes. Every public list has a Download Image button on its share page. You get an SVG with all card thumbnails embedded plus a Catchinary watermark and the canonical URL. Perfect for posting to X, Reddit, Discord, Instagram or wherever.

Can I edit my list after sharing it?

Yes. You own the list. The URL never changes, so anyone with the link always sees the latest version. Edit, reorder, add or remove cards anytime.

Will my tier list URL ever expire?

No. Public tier lists are permanent unless you delete them. The slug-based URL (catchinary.com/t/your-slug) is stable forever.

Can I make tier lists by set, era, or theme?

Absolutely. Title your list however you like ("Best Scarlet & Violet chase cards", "All-time scariest Mewtwos", "My childhood holos") and rank only the cards that matter to that theme.

Why doesn't my private list show in the /tiers grid?

The public grid only shows public lists. Find your own (public and private) under your profile at /me. Flip the Public toggle in the editor to make a private list discoverable.

Is the tier list creator really free?

Yes, completely free. No ads inside the editor, no card limit beyond the per-list 200 cap, no upsell. Build as many lists as you want.
