Pokémon TCG release & event calendar FAQ

Click any question to expand.

How often is the release calendar updated?

Every 30 minutes. A scheduled cron polls the pokemontcg.io API and the Bulbapedia expansion list, then merges new entries into our database. The moment a set ships or a future date is confirmed, it shows here on the next poll cycle.

Where do upcoming sets come from?

Two sources. pokemontcg.io is the official price-feed API and lists every set that has shipped (it does not surface future sets until they ship). Bulbapedia is a community-maintained wiki that adds future sets within a day or two of a Pokémon Company announcement, so we use it to catch upcoming sets weeks before pokemontcg.io picks them up.

Why isn't [leaked set name] on this list?

We only list officially announced sets. Leaks, rumors, and unconfirmed reveals from card-back leaks, retailer planograms, or social-media datamining are not included even if widely circulated. Once The Pokémon Company announces it on pokemon.com or a TCG ambassador confirms a release date, the set appears on the next poll cycle.

Where does the tournament calendar come from?

Tournament events are curated against the official pokemon.com Play Pokémon hub. We do not auto-scrape pokemon.com (Cloudflare blocks Worker IPs from doing so), so the event list is hand-maintained. Always cross-reference pokemon.com for the final venue, time, and registration details before booking travel.

What's the difference between Worlds, Internationals, Regionals, and Special Events?

Worlds is the annual world championship (mid-August), invite-only based on Championship Points earned through the season. Internationals are the four major opens (NA / EU / LATAM / OCE), highest non-Worlds prize pools. Regionals run roughly monthly across major regions and are the primary path for accumulating Championship Points. Special Events sit between Regionals and Internationals — open registration, sizable but smaller fields. League Cups are local hobby-shop events held weekly or monthly with low stakes but real Championship Points for casual players.

Does this calendar cover Japan / Korea / China / OCE events?

Right now the seeded events focus on the North American competitive circuit. The data file at src/data/tcg-events.json supports any region — we will expand once we have verified date sources for non-NA majors. Email us if you want a specific regional event added.

How do I get notified when new sets or events are added?

Subscribe to /feed/upcoming.xml in any RSS reader. Every newly discovered upcoming set publishes there immediately. Tournament events show up the moment a curator updates the data file. Account-based notifications are on the roadmap.

Why do the dates sometimes shift?

Three reasons. (1) The Pokémon Company occasionally pushes set release dates by a week or two as printing and distribution finalize — pokemontcg.io reflects the final ship date. (2) Tournament venues change. (3) Time-zone normalization: dates here are shown in the event-local timezone, so a set with a Friday 00:00 JST release shows on Thursday in US-East timezones.

Where can I see prices for a specific upcoming set once it releases?

The set's tile here links to /sets/<slug> the moment cards are added. Catchinary indexes every English-language set within ~24 hours of its release with live TCGplayer market prices, illustrator credits, and rarity breakdowns. Browse all sets →
